Vaping bans: a quick look at the industry’s future

Over the past few years, there have been a lot of pretty intense headlines about vaping. Some say that it’s about to be entirely banned next week, while others say that it’s here to stay. We all know that the press can be a little inflammatory at times, but how should you know what to believe?

With so much misinformation out there, we thought it high time to take a closer look at the bans, their rationale, and the industry’s future.

Why are bans being discussed?

One of the results of vaping’s rise to fame in recent years has been a massive increase in focus from the press. Some of this is largely just to make headlines, whereas other elements (such as the worrying increase in vaping among children) are genuine issues that deserve attention.

Partly as a result of these articles and others like them, the government has started to create and implement a range of vaping regulations. These include restrictions on nicotine strength, and a limit to the size of the e-liquid chamber in disposable devices to under 2 millilitres.  

Are they actually bans?

While they’re often called ‘bans’, that’s actually a bit of a misrepresentation. In the same way that everything is subject to regulation and government control, from cigarettes to pretty much all foods and medicines, vapes are now starting to be regulated as well. 

Companies such as Wholesale Disposable Vapes are still legally able to supply stock, just according to certain regulations, as would be expected with any other industry. 

While this means that some devices with certain contents are technically not allowed, this doesn’t amount to an all-out ban. The use of language by the press is largely to blame for this confusion, but it’s relatively easy to seek further clarification.

What impact will it have on the industry?

While some have posed these regulations as a death sentence for the vaping industry, it’s easy to argue that it will actually have the opposite effect. Unregulated industries can run into a whole range of issues that can be far more existentially threatening, from sudden government intervention to products of poor quality.

These regulations will likely help to improve consumer confidence in the products that they buy, allowing the industry to grow at a more sustained and steady rate. Whether this turns out to be the case is of course anyone’s guess, but as things are currently still going strong, we don’t think that this is a bad estimate to make at all.

As vaping devices develop, we’ll likely see government regulations develop in turn to try to keep up with the industry. As with most industries, regulations will likely continue to remain somewhat behind the times, playing a perpetual game of catch-up.

It’s likely in the best interest of the industry as a whole that they help government regulators create rules that actually reflect the genuine developments in the market. If we see this work being carried out, we can likely expect a healthy future for the vaping industry as a whole.
