What Can Your Business Do to Sharpen Its Event Marketing Skills?
Digital marketing is super important and will not go away anytime soon, but you can’t do your marketing only through a screen. You need to remember that people aren’t buried in their phones 24/7; many people go out to see the world, and even today, real-life marketing still has an effect. In fact, people just adore getting to go to events and many businesses; they’re either new to this or have no idea how to go about it.
When it comes to leveraging branding success, it’s all about mastering all forms of marketing, and that includes event marketing. But events don’t happen too often, so what few events your business gets to attend or host, you’ll have to do right. So, with that said, how can you get it right the first time around? Well, here is everything your business can do to sharpen its event marketing skills!

Create Compelling Content
Oh yes, content is king in event marketing; it’s basically serving as the fuel that drives engagement and interest before, during, and after the event. If you’re hosting an event, then you need people to know it exists (you usually don’t have to do this if you’re attending an event with a booth). So, you’ll have to develop a comprehensive content strategy that encompasses various formats and channels, including social media, email marketing, blog posts, videos, and interactive experiences.
You just need to target the basics and don’t skip out on these, either. It's up to you how you’re going to go about this, such as teaser campaigns, maybe even some behind-the-scenes glimpses; you could even try speaker interviews and other event highlights.
These are a few examples of what other businesses do, so again, it’s up to you and how you want to do it. However, you need to create content that educates, entertains, and excites your audience, building anticipation and driving attendance. Give people a reason to buy a ticket and actually show up to your event!
Leverage Multichannel Promotion
So it’s not just social media that you need to be focusing on; you also need to utilize a combination of online and offline channels, including email marketing, website promotion, print materials, influencer partnerships (depending on the industry and scale of this event), and media outreach, to amplify your message and attract attendees. Again, it all depends on the scale of this event, but be sure you’re doing more than just posting to your social media channels.
Make Sure There’s Hype at the Event
So when it’s time for the actual event, there still needs to be hype and excitement. You can’t make it seem all fun and interesting (no matter how you advertise it), and then when people show up, it’s actually boring. That’s something you’ll definitely want to avoid at all costs! Even if you’re not hosting the event but just a booth, you still need to drum up hype for your brand!
One of the things you need to do is to just keep interacting with people and give them a reason to interact with your brand. Honestly, the easiest way to get people super excited is to give them freebies. This could be a grab bag; maybe you can load it with freebies like custom plastic cups, branded stationary, and even apparel tends to do the trick. But there still needs to be hype, and the marketing prior to the event isn’t enough; it needs to be during the event, too.
Have Interactive Experiences at the Event
This goes hand in hand with what was mentioned above. There still needs to be some hype during the event itself, and there needs to be fun activities during the event (food and drinks are not enough). So why not encourage social sharing and user-generated content by incorporating event hashtags, photo booths, and social media contests? These all can amplify your event's reach and foster community engagement both online and offline.
Embrace Technologies
So, not every business can do this or should do it because it can become incredibly expensive. So, if your business can afford this (so there is no pressure), you may want to try and incorporate immersive technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality into your event experiences. If this is a tech-based event, then this should definitely be a great addition, but if it’s something like a charity banquet, then this won’t be fitting.
However, this can captivate audiences and create memorable interactions. So, if you’re at a trade show or convention, you can guarantee a lot of people will flock to your booth. In general, by offering immersive experiences that wow and delight, you can leave a lasting impression and differentiate your brand in the minds of attendees.
You’ll Need Strategic Partnerships
When it comes to this, it’s also going to greatly vary based on the scale and what you’re trying to achieve for the event. If you decide to go about this route, then it all needs to be strategic. You could look into collaborating with industry influencers, thought leaders, and strategic partners to amplify your event marketing efforts and reach new audiences.
So this could be a good idea before the event itself. But it doesn’t have to be that; you could also look into co-promotion, co-hosting events, or even content collaboration within the event itself. All of this can extend the reach and get others to notice your event.
Just Measure and Iterate
When it comes to marketing, it's not just about content creation and enticing people; you also need to measure the results of a campaign. So, after the event, you’ll have to analyze how successful it was and how much interaction you may or may not have had.
Basically, you’ll have to look at attendance rates, engagement metrics, lead generation, and conversion rates to assess the event's success against your objectives. Many businesses completely forget about this because it could help you see if an event is even worth it.
