Weekend Ideas for You and the Kids

If you work during the week, you will understand just how important weekends can be for creating memories with your children.

If youโ€™re looking to relax or have an adventure, there are plenty of fun things to do this weekend. Here are 6 ways you can take back the weekend in a way that both you and your children will love!

1. Plan a Kids Movie Night!

If you want to relax after a long week of work, one of the most comfortable and cuddly ways to do this is to plan a kids' movie night

Create a comforting oasis with blankets, pillows, and, if you want to go the extra mile, maybe even a fort. Give your kids creative freedom when it comes to picking the movie, so you can take the time to get the snacks ready.

With popcorn, candy, and maybe even cookies in your arms – get ready to dim the lights and get ready for a theatre-level movie theatre experience.

2. Get Outdoors With a Hike

The sun is out, and you found yourself gazing out the nearest window one too many times during the work week. Getting out into nature will cure this hankering and give your children the opportunity to explore the beauty of the natural world while getting some exercise.

Make sure you choose a trail that is suitable for your kidsโ€™ age and their energy levels, and then pack your essentials like water, snacks and sunscreen to make sure you arenโ€™t wanting for anything.

If you want to add a learning opportunity to the experience, point out any noteworthy flora and fauna along the way.

3. Visit a Local Museum or Zoo

If you would rather take the educational route, consider spending the day visiting a local zoo or museum.

These tourist attractions are designed to keep the little ones entertained with interactive exhibitions and the opportunity to learn more about animals and things from all around the world.

Better yet, some of these attractions have special events planned on the weekend – so make sure you check ahead to make the most of the day.

4. DIY Fun Day

Getting creative is always an option too! Unleash your kidsโ€™ creativity with a DIY craft day at home.

Gather basic crafting supplies like paper, markers, glue, scissors (and even glitter if youโ€™re feeling a bit brave) – and then let their imaginations run wild!

This will keep them entertained, and also give them a sense of accomplishment as they see their creations come to life.

5. Bake Together

Baking will be a fun, delicious, and informative way to spend time with your kids on the weekend.

Choose a recipe they can help with (preferably one they would like to eat), like cookies, cupcakes, or muffins. Donโ€™t let them handle any appliances, unless they are old enough, and instead, let them give you a helping hand with measuring, mixing, and decorating the treats.

Teaching them baking and cooking skills will give them a valuable toolkit to use in the future and also give you the chance to bond over your mutual love of baking delicious food.

6. Take an Adventure into the Backyard

If the weather is nice and you donโ€™t want to hike, plan a backyard adventure to bring the fun into your own backyard.Set up a scavenger hunt, build a mini obstacle course, or play classic outdoor games like tag or hide-and-seek. To add even more energy and joy to the day, you can also create a play area with backyard swing sets. For an extra dose of excitement, pitch a tent and have a backyard camping experience โ€“ even better if you add the cherry on top with storytelling and marshmallow roasting.

The Weekend Awaits!

Now that the weekend is nearing, itโ€™s time to remember that it doesnโ€™t matter what activities you choose – because the key to a great weekend is spending quality time with your kids!

It doesn't matter if it is a movie night, a hike, or getting creative with crafts – creating lasting memories will be the gift they will remember for a lifetime.

Take advantage of the weekend to bond, laugh, and have fun with your little ones!
