Tips To Make Moving Easier
Moving house is never going to be easy, exactly, but there are some things you can do and measures you can put in place to make it easier, and that’s never going to be a bad thing. The problem is that moving can be stressful for many different reasons – there’s a lot to do in a short amount of time, it’s emotional, it’s expensive, and you’ll probably have plenty of other things on your to-do list at the same time – and when all those things come together, you could feel completely overwhelmed.
That’s why it’s important to work out how to make moving as easy as possible. When you do, you can reduce at least some of the stress and feel a lot more organized, which will ensure things get done, and you get through the move relatively unscathed. With that in mind, here are some great tips to help make moving easier so you can start putting things in place right away.
Declutter
One of the most important tips we can give you if you want to make moving easier is to declutter. Over time, we all accumulate a lot of ‘stuff’ that ends up in various places around the house, and although some of that stuff will be useful, perhaps even becomes something you use every day, other things get put in a closet and forgotten about. That’s clutter, and it’s not something you really want to have to deal with when you’re moving.
Decluttering is, as the name suggests, the process of removing all that ‘stuff’ from your home. You can sell it, throw it in the trash, or donate it, but whatever you do, get it out of the house as soon as you know you’re moving. In fact, do it even earlier; do it when you first decide you want to sell your home because in that way, you’ll save yourself time and stress later on, and your property will look better (and perhaps be valued more) when a real estate agent comes to talk to you about selling. Plus, when you have the photos taken for your listing, things will look much more attractive and inviting as well.
Decluttering is quite a therapeutic thing to do, and although it might seem like a big job to start with, if you take it room by room and you’re methodical, it can be a refreshing experience that helps you feel good while you’re also making moving easier on yourself.
Rent A Storage Unit
Following on from the idea above, there will be some things in your home that you don’t want to sell, trash, or donate but that are in the way – at least in terms of selling the property, Any realtor will tell you that a prospective buyer needs to be able to see themselves living in your home, and if it’s full of your things (which, we know, is only natural), that’s going to be hard for them to do.
What’s the solution? The solution is to rent a storage unit. When you’ve got a unit, you can take as many of your possessions out of your house as possible and store them away safely and securely. Since you have to pack everything up anyway when you’re moving house, you can think of this as getting a head start on the job, and if it happens to make your home more attractive to potential buyers, that’s a bonus to enjoy.
By putting as much of your stuff into storage as you can, you’ll save time and effort later on, improve how your home looks, and feel less stressed because you’ve got space to breathe and room to move around. And don’t worry if there’s not a storage facility close by or you don’t have time to get to one because you can even get pod storage for moving, which means the storage unit comes to you, helping you move smoothly and easily.
Make A Schedule
One of the things that can get overwhelming and stressful when you move and make things harder than they need to be is that so much has to happen seemingly at once. If it’s not happening simultaneously, it’s definitely happening in quick succession, and that barely gives you time to think things through or really know what it is you’re doing from one moment to the next. Quite apart from that being stressful, of course, it also means that things can easily get forgotten, and by the time you realize they need to be done, there’s a ton of other things fighting for priority.
That’s why it’s important to make a schedule. We know it might have to change as time goes by, and we know that even a fantastic schedule might not work one hundred percent of the time, but if you can plan out the major points of the move and the dates the most important things have to be done by, you’ll have a better handle on the situation and feel much more in control. The smaller jobs can be slotted in between the bigger ones, and they’re less likely to be forgotten because you’re writing them down, and, eventually, you can enjoy ticking them off the list.

Make Plans For Children And Pets
If you think moving is stressful for you as an adult, think about how it might be for kids and pets who won’t understand much about what’s happening or, if the children are older, might understand but not be able to do much to help. If you’ve got children and animals around you, you’ll need to look after them and still get on top of moving house and all the millions of tasks that go with it – it’s going to make things harder.
However, if you plan ahead and ensure you make some arrangements for the smaller (and possibly furrier) members of your family, things will be a lot easier. For one thing, bored kids and scared pets can be in a safe place (perhaps with a neighbor or family member, for example) where they’re not going to get underfoot or get stressed out themselves. For another, you can cross taking care of them off your to-do list for the moment, allowing you to focus on other things. It’s really the best for everyone involved.
