How The Latest Tech Trends Could Change Entertainment

There is probably no other public industry out there that has been tied so closely to technology as the media. Every time there has been an advance in communications, the media has leapt forward as well with entertainment media being the most prominent public face each time from radio to television and through to the online era. So what are the next major entertainment impacts?

The AI Takeover

It's no secret that pretty much every industry even remotely linked to technology is either adapting to or bracing for the widespread introduction of AI. Entertainment is no exception and amongst a few concerns have been a lot of positive prospects as well.

Software development for one is looking to get a lot of help, particularly with the ‘grunt' work of coding. It means that the gap from design to completed product will be a lot shorter, and all kinds of entertainment software from video editing to casino game design will be affected. It's not impossible that players could be trying a new version of online bingo at Paddy Power or slinging cards in new modes of blackjack elsewhere every few months at the pace AI could help with. Market changes in all kinds of interactive media could be addressed in the space of weeks instead of years and make the whole thing more dynamic.

Augmented Virtual Worlds

Speaking of interactive media, everything is about to get a lot more interactive if tech trend predictions are to be believed. Both virtual reality and augmented reality platforms have been around for a few years now but have mainly been on the fringes of public awareness. With 2024 comes a new wave of interest from major companies including Apple and Sony.

On the VR side, we could finally be seeing truly portable VR headsets reach the market, albeit still at very high price points, meaning that a new surge in VR entertainment could likely follow behind it. For AR, Google has recently announced that their AR platform, ARCore, is getting an upgrade to allow real-time scanning of nearby geometry such as buildings as hills, which opens the door to a ton of interactive possibilities.

The March Of 5G

It feels like only a couple of years ago the introduction of 5G was the talking point of the entire world. Since it was originally launched in limited areas, it has become mainly limited in mentions only to marketing for telecom companies, meaning that not many people are aware of the massive changes it could bring.

Streaming on sites like Netflix or YouTube at the very highest definitions, around 4K in most cases, could run through between 7GB and 8GB in only an hour, meaning most people on 4G or lower simply wouldn't be able to access it. With the 5G spread set to hit a third of all users this year, however, watching in 4K may soon become more of a media standard than a luxury.

The only thing left to see now is how the various media companies can wield all this new tech to make something new, and that's something only they know for now!
