America’s Most Beautiful Fall Escapes
Fall is such a wonderful time in the Northern Hemisphere. The air turns crisp in the mornings, while evenings create a cozy atmosphere, the foliage begins its transition from green to fiery reds and oranges, and a feeling of excitement and anticipation starts to build up as we move toward the holidays. Things like taking walks in nature, sipping on pumpkin spiced anything, and getting out your knitted sweaters begin to sound more and more exciting. Maybe you’re even planning a little getaway to make the most of the season! If you are, these are some US destinations that you have to check out this year.

Asheville, North Carolina
Where to stay: Biltmore Estate
The elevation of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the crazy variety of trees that grow there make them an incredible sight to see in the fall. Here in Asheville, you really get a taste of a classic fall experience between the scenery and the stunning Biltmore Estate. If you ever wanted to feel like you live in a Disney castle, this is the place! The gardens are enormous- perfect for evening walks. There are wine and chocolate tastings and a number of ways to stay on the property. There are activities nearby for thrill seekers, too — you could try Navitat’s mountaintop zipline for a totally different view of your surroundings. If you like taking it slow, there are some guided bike tours in the area that will keep you firmly on the ground. Getting to Asheville is a breeze as you can land a luxury jet charter at the nearby Asheville Regional Airport, which is just 14 miles away from Biltmore Estate.
Lake Placid, New York
Where to stay: Lake Placid Lodge
You’ve probably heard of Lake Placid from the early 2000s movie about the giant alligator, but really, this spot is as serene and beautiful as they come. Upstate New York is one of the best places to get a quintessential Adirondack fall experience full of charm and color. The Lake Placid Lodge is the only hotel located right on the actual lake, which makes it quite special as a vacation spot. It's a gorgeous place to spend time and highlights many local craftspeople since each of the 30 rooms is uniquely decorated with an intricate collection of local crafts and furniture. Sip a glass of wine or hot chocolate by your hand-laid fireplace or get outdoors for walks around the lake, boating on the water, or hikes through the mountains. Don't miss the Flaming Leaves Festival for lots of fall fun: October 6th and 7th.
Snoqualmie, Washington
Where to stay: Salish Lodge & Spa
Washington does fall in such a big, special way. Of course, the scenery is spectacular; there is no denying that, but staying in Washington during the fall just makes you all warm and fuzzy inside in a way that no other place does. The Salish Lodge and Spa, which is one of the locations where Twin Peaks was originally shot, just adds to that feeling. It is owned by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and perched right on the edge of the unbelievable Snoqualmie Falls. You’ll never want to leave the hotel, which is fine because the spa treatments, rooms (each complete with a fireplace, whirlpool tub, and balcony or window seat), and menu (sample the honey that the location is famous for) have so much to offer.
Barnard, Vermont
Where to stay: Twin Farms
Firstly, it's important to note that this is an adults-only location, so don't plan to bring the kids along on this particular stay. Staying at an adults-only location like Twin Farms does guarantee that your escape will be very peaceful and relaxing and that you can move at your own pace. The upscale cabins come with a deliciously warm hot tub and fire to sit beside, and you can get outdoors into the meadows and orchards on the 300-acre property when you don't feel like being inside. If you’d like to book a private dinner in the gorgeous wine cellar (please note that some experiences come at an extra cost), you should do so in advance, but things like tennis, biking, or canoeing on Copper Pond can be booked when you arrive. The leaf peeping in Vermont is second to none!
Allegan, Michigan
Where to stay: Castle in the Country
This is a stay that would make Rory and Lorelai Gilmore squeal with pleasure. The charming Castle in the Country is the epitome of a fantastic fall experience. It's a 100-year-old house turned B&B, but not the kind the Gilmores hate. This family-run business has so much charm that even the 65-acre property can't hold it all in. Since it's a B&B, not a hotel, you’ll have a far more intimate experience and only share the place with nine other rooms. Each room is decorated differently, eight of them being suites equipped with two-person whirlpool baths and fireplaces. Step out of your room and snuggle up by the outdoor fireplace while taking in the stars that twinkle so brightly in the night. You’ll have delicious breakfasts made from scratch and featuring local ingredients. If you visit in September or October, you’ll get access to the complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides complete with appetizers and apple cider mimosas. There are beautiful walks and kayaking excursions, or you can stay indoors and get a private massage.
