Thinking of Buying a Vauxhall? Here Are the Best in Class

When buying a car, it can be difficult to make a choice between the myriad options available in both used and new markets. Whether youโ€™re looking to make life easier for yourself or have a hint of brand loyalty about you, you might be settling on one car manufacturer โ€“ and you canโ€™t go far wrong with Vauxhall.

Vauxhall have produced a few clangers in their more-than-100 years of trading (Vauxhall Vectra, anyone?), but they are much better-known for their successes โ€“ cars which have come to define the UKโ€™s manufacturing pedigree on an international scale. Vauxhall cars run the gamut, from supercompacts to roomy MPVs โ€“ but which are the best in class for the discerning buyer?

Vauxhall Corsa

The Vauxhall Corsa need not be introduced. It is easily one of the most popular hatchbacks on UK roads, having established a real presence over the last 20 years โ€“ and for good reason. It is an incredibly accessible car, both in terms of driveability and price. It constitutes a great many UK driversโ€™ โ€˜first carโ€™ for these reasons.

The Corsa is still in production today, with electrified versions paving the way for newer drivers to get on the EV hype. However, used Vauxhall cars are also in high abundance, presenting an affordable on-ramp to car ownership

Vauxhall Astra

The Astra is another Vauxhall heavyweight, having been in production for over four decades at this point. It is a slightly larger model, which has seen a number of iterations over the course of its manufacture; saloon and estate versions exist alongside the more standardised 5-door hatchback. The Astra is another popular option on the used markets, as a budget family car or city driver. This is true not only in immediate price but also repair costs โ€“ a vital consideration against the backdrop of a struggling economy

Vauxhall Zafira

If you are a growing family, whether welcoming newborns at home or watching your kids swiftly becoming school-ready, youโ€™re likely in the market for a car with room. Storage and seating are absolutely worth every penny, for everything from the school run to the weekly shop โ€“ and these are things that the Vauxhall Zafira has in spades.

The Zafira is a newer entrant to the Vauxhall pantheon than those previously mentioned, and doesnโ€™t quite have the same presence or popularity either โ€“ indeed, the Zafira model was officially retired in 2019 โ€“ but it is a highly serviceable MPV with a lot of fans from back in the day.

Vauxhall Adam

Last but certainly not least, there is the Vauxhall Adam. The Adam is a compact hatchback with a little more in the way of user interface than its closest relative, the Corsa; the Adam was designed as a competitor to the revamped Mini Cooper, as a tiny urban driver with mod cons for younger demographics. It too has ceased production, but used models remain an excellent choice for someone just looking to get from A to B.
